Ayres Rock

Day slipped into something more comfortable,
an Aboriginal painting of stars.
Red fired earth simmered
to a smoked black.
The stage was set,
Uluru displayed its wares
each hue, texture, tone anew.
All around
hushed
we waited
and accepted.
