How Long?

For Monica

How long, since I was young and free
and you meant the world to me?
me and you, teenagers,
barelegged in October
drinking on the walls of our ‘fine city’
wishing the time away
til the age we are now.
So much has changed,
you’re miles from home
and I’m alone
stretching to you
my sister.
